Weekly Wrap-up: February 24, 2017--Vol #3
“When one tugs at a single thing in nature, he finds it attached to the rest of the world.” – John Muir
This morning as I lie in bed, I got one whopper of a calf cramp. You know the kind...sends you over the edge of your pain threshold & leaves you writhing around wondering what you did to deserve such a horribly painful start to your day. Even once it's over you find yourself cursing its existence, both exceedingly painful and downright annoying.
I've been having these calf cramps a lot lately. Apparently the way I stand with 18 extra pounds of belly hanging out in front of me makes my calves to weird things all day. And they decide to get even with me while I sleep. Ugh.
Since these horrendous cramps seem to be a semi-permanent visitor for at least the near future, I decided to see if I could make them useful. To do this, I ran through a list of questions I often use when not-so-great moments happen in life (as they are apt to do, sometimes way more often than I'd like):
Hmmm.
I have also decided I can apply the same theory to the really hard pushes when I'm in spin class and during workouts with my trainer (damn you lunges...you are my nemesis in & out of pregnancy!).
Suddenly pain is my friend. A strange fellow...but actually quiet insightful when I listen & just be with him. Who knew?!
Everything is connected,
Leslie
PS--This weeks list of ideas, items, & inspirations is shorter than usual...because my to-do list this week was much, much longer than usual! To see the few highlights, scroll on down & click around below. Perhaps less is more?! Feedback welcome!
This Week's Terrific Tidbits:What you missed on the blog:
Ever felt like snapping at someone...maybe even yourself for something you can't believe you did?! If you felt it but didn't...awesome job! If you felt it & snapped away...your kindness muscle may be weak. Yep...kindness if just like a muscle. You can strengthen your ability to be kinder (including being kinder to YOU!). Click here to read more & find your kind.

What I'm (re)Reading:
Sometimes ya gotta circle back to old books you love. This week I have been re-reading parts of one of my favorite books, The Four Agreements. I don't like to think of myself as a slow learner...but it took me 10 years to REALLY understand one of the agreements (#3-Don't take anything personally...anyone else struggle with that?!).
This time around I am really working on Agreement #4-Always do your best. Hard to feel like I am when my over-achiever self is so tired from 3rd trimester human-growing...and yet I know I am. Our best isn't the same every day. A reminder I definitely needed...thank goodness for old books that feel like old friends!

To do this, I ran through a list of questions I often use when not-so-great moments happen in life (as they are apt to do, sometimes way more often than I'd like):
- How is this experience like something else going on in my life right now?
- What's the 2% of this experience that could be good/useful/helpful/enlightening?
- How do I want to be the next time I encounter this or a similar experience?
Hmmm.
