I've Got a Passion...FOR PENNIES!!

2¢ On Playing With Pennies

The Penny Project is how Leslie gives back...a way to be a do-gooder in the community!  Her first contribution was $500 to the inaugural Young Women's National Conference (YWNC), an event dedicated to inspiring girls to reach their full potential as confident, influential, and bold young women.

Her second contribution was to Ronald McDonald House for $280.03. Sound like an odd amount...but when you're picking up pennies, every last cent matters!  This total was the amount of money Leslie received from the members of a leadership program she attended.  At the same time, her cousin was attending her own leadership program and as part of it, trying to raise $5,000 for Ronald McDonald House.

Hear About Leslie's Passion For Pennies
Because such an important part of leadership is about connection, Leslie used the money from the members of her leadership group to support her cousin's leadership mission as a sign of connection & support for an important cause. The Penny Project is also a fun way to enjoy the little things in life.  Remember when you were a kid and finding a penny was a big deal?  Well...Leslie still thinks it is & invites you to join her! To date (along with the help of other amazing penny picker-uppers) Leslie's collected over $4,100 in found money & small donations to give to individuals & organizations doing great things in their communities.  She thinks that proves the best things come in small packages and little things DO make a difference!  It has also provided her with lots of laughs and funny stories.  Check out The Penny Project Website to get in on the penny fun!

Penny Project Moments To Remember

Sometimes passion leads to places you couldn't ever imagine!  When Leslie started her first blog about penny finding, a film maker found her and asked her if she would represent the "Pro Penny" viewpoint in a documentary he was making.  Um...heck, YEAH!  Here is Leslie (center) with a few members of the film crew that came to her house for taping.  And yes, she is showing off her beloved penny tracking spreadsheet!

Best.  Belt buckle.  EVER!  This amazing piece was a gift from one of Leslie's most dedicated penny picker-uppers, Nicole.  She practically stalked the artist to buy this as a gift for Leslie, who admits she feels like some kind of Penny Super Hero when she wears it.  And why shouldn't life be filled with a few delusions of super hero grandeur every now & then?!

One day while driving home from her parents' house, Leslie spotted a $5 bill while waiting for the light to turn green.  She hopped out of the car, grabbed it & gave a thumbs up to two guys standing on the street corner waiting to cross.  They smiled, waved, & then proceeded to find another $5 bill as they crossed the street.  It was too great a moment not to flip a U-turn, pull out the camera, & snap a picture with her fellow $5-finder!
